Slitaz cooking new user fix

Postby intodis » 18 Nov 2010, 20:58

Installing the Nov 2010 slitaz cooking can end with the system having a tux user login saying can't execute the login command...

to Fix

1. Complete Install. Remove CD and boot the system. Login as root. Then add CD and reboot into the CD. [may not be necessary to login as root]

Once booted into the CD again. Remaster the install's /home/tux folder.

2. Open the file manager and navigate to the install's disk, this mounts it so you can remaster /home/tux on it. Close the file manager.

3. Open a terminal and execute the following commands.

Code: Select all
su root
... pswd
rm -rf /media/disk/home/tux

cd /home/tux
cp -ar .Xdefaults /media/disk/home/tux/
cp -ar .config /media/disk/home/tux/
cp -ar .gtkrc-2.0 /media/disk/home/tux/
cp -ar .profile /media/disk/home/tux/
cp -ar .xinitrc /media/disk/home/tux/
mkdir /media/disk/home/tux/Desktop

4. Remove the CD and reboot the system into the installation. Login in as root.

5. Open a terminal and execute the following command.

Code: Select all
chown -R tux:tux /home/tux

6. Reboot and login as tux and your desktop should be working.

Now let set up the skeleton user profile folder so we can get any new user of our liking to work.

1. Open a terminal and execute the following commands.

Code: Select all
su root
... pswd

mv -a /etc/skel /etc/skel.ori
mkdir /etc/skel
cp -ar /home/tux/.Xdefaults /etc/skel
cp -ar /home/tux/.config /etc/skel
cp -ar /home/tux/.gtkrc-2.0 /etc/skel
cp -ar /home/tux/.profile /etc/skel
cp -ar /home/tux/.xinitrc /etc/skel
mkdir/etc/skel/Desktop

2. Go to the System Tools\Control Box, and add a new user on the Users tab.

3. Reboot and login with your new user.

And your done. actually I haven't worked out this last bit completely.
