xubuntu - restoring top and bottom panels (if disappeared)

notes from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/XubuntuPanels

xfce may from time to time hide the panels without being prompted. Occurred to me after upgrading to latest VirtualBox, trying to connect my Garmin GPS to the virtual machine, and getting a VM hang ... not sure what caused it but after rebooting xubuntu my panels were gone.

Found there is a applications sub-menu for the right click on desktop. So could get to firefox and above page. This is a setting so don't turn it off, or you may need a second computer, I have 3, but only really turn one on.

So the solution
On the keyboard press ATL+F2 then enter the following and run to clear the session cache which is causing the problem,
Code: Select all
rm -rf ~/.cache/sessions

Again press ATL+F2 then enter the following and run the xfce panels
Code: Select all
xfce4-panel

And the panels should reappear, when you shutdown this will be saved to the new session cache ...
