.deb: How to force a .deb package to completely reinstall

Postby intodis » 18 Feb 2009, 04:40

Shows how to force all files in a .deb package to be reinstalled. Say you have followed some fools blog, and the result is you deleted by accident or on purpose a needed file. You know which .deb package contains the file but you can't sudo apt-get remove it as that would result in removal of other core packages (bad idea). Whats the answer? You need to force the complete reinstall of the package ... FOLLOW THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i --force-all /path/of/my.package.name.deb

Note packages installed through apt-get, add/remove or synaptic on ubuntu systems have there .deb files archived in /var/cache/apt/archives.
